We get the same call every quarter. A dealer ordered replacement broom wafers. Installed them. And the sweeper doesn’t sweep.
Not because the wafers were defective. Because the specs were wrong.
Here are the four decisions that make or break a wafer brush order.
1. Material — Poly, Wire, or Combo?
This is the most common mistake. Buyers default to poly because it’s cheaper. Then wonder why the broom won’t cut through packed mud.
Here’s the rule:
Poly (Polypropylene) — All-purpose sweeping. Loose dirt, gravel, snow, light debris. Gentle on surfaces. Best for municipal street sweeping and snow removal.
Wire (Steel) — Aggressive scraping. Caked-on mud, ice, heavy compaction. The steel bristles dig in where poly slides over. But you pay for it in surface wear.
Poly/Wire Combo (50/50 blend) — Balanced performance. The poly sweeps the loose material, the wire breaks up the hard pack. One pass, both jobs. Common on road resurfacing and construction sites where the debris profile changes by the hour.

2. Shape — Flat or Convoluted?
Flat wafers need spacers between them to keep bristles evenly distributed. More parts to inventory, more assembly time.
Convoluted (zigzag/wavy) wafers don’t need spacers. The wave shape creates natural spacing when installed. Fewer parts, faster installation, consistent bristle coverage.
Here’s a real example. A Bobcat 48″ Angle Broom Attachment takes 28 flat wafers — or 24 convoluted. Same broom, same coverage, four fewer parts to handle. If your crew changes broom wafers in the field, that difference saves 30-40% on swap time. That’s a real number, not marketing.
3. ID and OD — The Fit That Decides Everything
Inner Diameter (ID) determines whether the wafer mounts on your core. Outer Diameter (OD) determines cleaning width and bristle contact pressure.
